You said something about climbing???

Climbing is open for those climbers who want to get back in the gym. However, in light of the risks associated with COVID community spread, things will be a bit different.

We are excited to see folks in the gym again.

  • Space in the gym will be limited to 24 total climbers at any time. We will revisit this cap as the risk of COVID in our community subsides.
  • Climbing is available for Spring/Summer passholders and Campus Rec members, we will not be offering 'try-it climbs', climbing instruction, or parties/gatherings at this time.
  • Masks will be required at all times, even while climbing.
  • All seating areas, door handles, cubbies and metal climbing gear will be wiped down and sanitized between climbing sessions. Please be aware, due to the nature of climbing holds, we cannot sanitize holds in between use. We do not recommend you resume climbing if you or people in your social network are at a high risk for COVID.
  • Passholders with a monthly pass, billing will resume in August. Be watching for more details.

Below is a gauge showing our current climber count.

Updates regarding COVID

Friends and community members,

The news surrounding the impact of the Coronavirus changes with every passing hour. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we have responded by adjusting hours and access. We are always impressed by the resolve of climbers in this region. Please know, we have made each step with the goal of minimizing unnecessary risks to climbers but also those in our community.

This aligns with campus efforts to flatten the curve, but as our friends at the Bay have said: you can’t cancel community. Please continue to engage with your fellow climbers as you do your part in flattening the curve. The effort may be different than a meet up at the gym, but

  • share and brainstorm ways to stay in climbing shape with at home exercises
  • those random conversations that would have happened while climbing should still happen. Reach out, share that meme, and encourage your climbing partner
  • make plans for a big adventure when the risks subside
  • please don’t jet out to a remote location without first considering the impact to the local communities you could visit.

We will do what we can to keep in touch. Check out our Instagram feed (@unl_oa) for updates and suggestions for ways to stay connected and active. If you have suggestions for creative adventures while staying put share them here:

For those of you with community monthly or annual passes, you will be hearing more about how we will freeze your pass and payments.
