Aqua Fit Classes

For beginners to advanced. An amazing workout for your abdominals, thighs, and buttocks. The fast-paced tempo increases your heart rate for fat burning and cardio strength. We'll use water paddles and aqua dumbbells to tone muscles. Combo of shallow & deep-end exercises.

Parent & Child Aquatics

American Red Cross Parent & Child Aquatics familiarizes children (from ages 6 months to about 3 years) to the water, gives parents safety information, teaches parents techniques to help orient their children to the water and provides direction regarding how to supervise water activities in a responsible manner. The course is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. This course is a bonding experience that will fill parents and children with wonderful lifelong memories.

Preschool Aquatics

American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics promotes the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and aquatic skills for young children (ages 4 and 5). Skills categories include water entry and exit, breath control, buoyancy, changing direction and position, swim on front and back, and water safety. This course will prepare children to swim in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses.

Child Learn-to-Swim

American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills to children (ages 6-11). A skill assessment will be performed on the first day of class to determine individual skill levels. Participants will then build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements on the front, back and side. They will learn to refine different strokes and build endurance as the levels increase.

Adult Learn-to-Swim

American Red Cross Adult Swim courses are intended for older teens and adults wishing to improve their knowledge of, and skill in, the water. Adult Swim offers three options to meet specific needs and interests—Learning the Basics, Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes, and Swimming for Fitness.

Lifeguarding

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Early Spring Class:

  • Pre-course requirements:
    • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course
    • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation: Monday, February 5th at 7pm in MLH pool
    • Complete the online blended learning prior to the first on-site skills session scheduled for February 16th at 5pm
  • February 16th to February 18th
  • Friday through Sunday
  • Friday 5-10pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am-6pm

Lifeguarding Instructor

The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

  • Pre-course requirements:
    • Must be 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
    • Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certificate or an equivalent certificate from another organization.
    • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation: Monday, January 15th at 7pm in MLH pool
    • Successfully complete all the online blended learning components prior to the first on-site skills session scheduled for Friday, January 26th at 7 p.m.

The purpose of the Lifeguarding Review course is to give currently certified lifeguards the opportunity recertify by reviewing the course content within a formal course setting. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

  • Pre-course requirements:
    • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
    • Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certificate
    • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation: Monday, April 9th at 7 p.m. in MLH pool
    • Complete the online blended learning prior to the first on-site skills session scheduled for April 21st at 9 a.m.

  • 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Registration fee: $75 members, $100 non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning components)

Water Safety Instructor

The purpose of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. This course is not designed to teach you basic-level swimming skills. It is dedicated to developing knowledge and skills you will need to plan and teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program.

  • Pre-course requirements:
    • Must be 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
    • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation: Monday, January 22nd at 7pm in MLH pool
    • Successfully complete all the assigned online blended learning homework assignments during course
  • February 2rd to February 10th
  • Fridays 5-10p & Saturdays 9a-6p
  • Mandatory practice teaches will be scheduled for Tuesday, February 6th OR Thursday February 8th at 5:15p OR 6:15p for one hour
  • Registration fee: $175 members, $200 non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning components)
