Adult Learn-to-Swim (Over 18 years)

Adult Learn-to-Swim: American Red Cross Adult Swim courses are intended for older teens and adults wishing to improve their knowledge of, and skill in, the water. Adult Swim offers two options to meet specific needs and interests—Learning the Basics and Improving Skills & Swimming Strokes.

Lifeguarding

Swim Registration

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Registration fee: $100 members, $125 non-members

Friday, February 22–Sunday, February 24 (Registration deadline: February 6)

  • Friday 5-10pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am-6pm
  • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course
  • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation (Monday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in MLH pool)
  • Complete the online blended learning prior to the first on-site skills session (scheduled for February 22 at 5 p.m.)

Lifeguarding Instructor

Swim Registration

The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Registration fee: $175 members, $200 non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning component)

Pre-course requirements:

  • Must be 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
  • Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certificate or an equivalent certificate from another organization.
  • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation (Monday, January 21 at 7pm in MLH pool)
  • Successfully complete all the online blended learning components prior to the first on-site skills session (scheduled for Friday, January 25 at 7 p.m.)
Spring 2019 Class

Must attend pre-course skills test and all three in-class dates.

The purpose of the Lifeguarding Review course is to give currently certified lifeguards the opportunity recertify by reviewing the course content within a formal course setting. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Registration fee: $75 members, $100 non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning component)

Pre-course requirements:

  • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
  • Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certificate
  • Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation (Monday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in MLH pool)
  • Complete the online blended learning prior to the first on-site skills session scheduled for March 30 at 9 a.m.
Spring 2019 Class
  • Class date: Saturday, March 30 | 9am-6pm (Registration deadline: March 6)
