UNL Joins National Effort to Build a Culture of Quitting

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is joining colleges across the country to build a culture that supports quitting tobacco and nicotine use. With a $20,000 grant  support from the Truth Initiative, UNL peer educators and college leaders are working together with campus partners to raise awareness of UNL’s campus policy, share resources, and promote a healthier, tobacco- and nicotine-free environment for everyone on campus.

As part of this effort, College Leaders are helping Huskers connect with the EX Program, a free digital resource designed to help people quit smoking, vaping, or using other nicotine products. You’ll also see social media posts, campus events, and quitting challenges aimed at building community and celebrating progress toward healthier living.

Nearly all smokers start before age 26, which makes college an important time to focus on prevention and support. By creating spaces that are free from tobacco and nicotine, UNL is taking another step toward improving mental and physical well-being, reducing waste, and keeping our campus clean and safe for all Huskers.

Meet with one of UNL’s Peer Educators

Thinking about quitting smoking or vaping? Meeting with a UNL Wellness Ambassador is a great first step. These trained peers can help you explore your motivation to quit, share helpful tips and tools, and connect you with campus resources like the EX Program and the University Health Center. Whether you’re ready to quit or just curious about your options, Wellness Ambassadors provide a supportive, judgment-free space to help you move toward a nicotine-free lifestyle
