Campus Recreation Center (CREC)

General
  • UNL Campus Recreation recognizes and celebrates the human differences that surround us.   • Current and valid UNL I.D. Card, CREC Membership card or Active Husker App barcode required to enter.
  • Visitors must pay guest fee & present a photo I.D.
  • The possession, use and/or distribution of alcoholic beverages, drugs, tobacco products, and dangerous weapons are not allowed in any facility, as defined by the University's Student Code of Conduct. Vapor- and e-cigarettes are prohibited.
  • Roller blades/skates, scooters, and skateboards may not be used. Use storage racks provided outside the facilities for storage
  • Bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles are prohibited from being brought into/used inside campus buildings as defined by university regulations. Motorcycles and mopeds must be parked in designated parking areas; bicycles must be stored in the racks provided outside the facilities.
  • Unwanted recording, photography, and other multimedia of patrons is not permitted in Campus Recreation facilities. Employees of Campus Recreation reserve the right to monitor multimedia activity and regulate/restrict it as they see fit.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for any personal items left unattended and/or unsecured in any facility. Personal items can be secured in day-use lockers or rented lockers. Items turned in as lost will be logged. Unclaimed items are periodically cleared from the facilities.
  • Members and guests may not provide personal training services, nutritional products, lessons in swimming, fitness, or other goods and services on the premises..
  • Only spill-resistant and shatterproof drinking bottles are allowed in activities spaces.
  • Clean, appropriate athletic attire must cover the chest and buttocks. Attire that could cause damage to equipment is prohibited.
  • Athletic (non-marking) shoes are recommended for recreational activities. Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited in all facilities (spikes, taps, etc). No sandals, open-toed shoes, or boots are allowed during activities. Boots and shoes with heels are prohibited on all wood floors during activities.
  • No striking, kicking, or hitting of other patrons or staff.
  • Throwing of medicine balls against walls, floors, or turf is prohibited during open recreation.
  • No spitting in the facility.
  • Headphones must be used with personal radios and electronic listening devices.
  • Animals are not permitted in the facility, except trained service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Use personal equipment according to the manufacturer's instructions and at your own risk. Personal equipment must not mark or damage any facilities.
  • Wipe down & clean equipment after use with disinfectant spray and towels (provided in exercise areas).
  • Youth age 6 years and older must use respective restrooms & locker rooms.
  • Youth age 15 years and younger must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult age 19 years or older.
  • Do not engage in any activity that will endanger yourself or other patrons.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct and the use of profanity are prohibited. Campus Recreation reserves the right to remove individuals from recreation facilities and to revoke membership based on that individual's actions. Failure to comply with directions of the staff and/or failure to identify oneself when requested to do so will result in individuals being removed from the facility. The duration of the suspension will follow the Campus Recreation Misconduct and Ejection Policy.
Cardio Alcove
  • Clean, appropriate athletic attire must cover the chest and buttocks. Attire that could cause damage to equipment is prohibited.
  • Closed-toed activity-appropriate footwear is required. Shoes must have a heel or heel strap.
  • Use equipment for the intended purpose only. Patrons must face forward on treadmills.
  • 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment during peak hours (when other patrons are waiting).
  • Walkways should remain clear at all times. Stretching is permitted in mat areas only.

Cardio Zone 1 & 2

Combative Arts
  • Equipment stored in this room must remain in the room.
  • Throwing and kicking objects are prohibited, i.e. balls, and sticks.
  • Wearing boots and heels are prohibited during activities.
  • Leaning equipment against walls and mirrors is prohibited. Patrons must remain at least one arm-length from mirrors during activities.
  • Sparring, wrestling, martial-arts throws and other intensive physical contact activities are only allowed with a designated Campus Recreation employee.
  • Open recreation is prohibited during scheduled activities.
Cook Pavilion
  • Equipment stored in this room must remain in the room.
  • Throwing or hitting hard objects (i.e. baseballs, softballs, cricket balls, lacrosse balls, golf balls) is prohibited during open recreation times.
  • Slamming medicine balls on the turf is prohibited. Throwing them against the walls and pads is prohibited as well.
  • Proper athletic footwear is recommended at all times. Metal cleats are prohibited.
  • Climbing the pads, walls, and beams are prohibited.
  • Water is the only beverage/food item allowed. No sports drinks, coffee, soda, food, gum, sunflower seeds, etc.
  • No tape or adhesive may be used on the turf surface (for marking, etc.).
  • Use of a stroller during workouts is prohibited.
  • Notify Operations Manager if equipment becomes stuck in building structure/ledges to have it removed by an authorized employee.
Fitness Room
  • Equipment stored in this room must remain in the room.
  • Throwing and kicking objects is prohibited, i.e. balls, sticks.
  • Wearing boots and heels are prohibited during activities.
  • Leaning equipment against walls and mirrors is prohibited. Patrons must remain at least one arm-length from mirrors during activities.
  • Open recreation is prohibited during scheduled activities.
Heavy Bag
  • Boxing gloves, MMA gloves or wraps are required when striking or punching with hands. Gloves can be checked-out for no cost at the Member Services desk.
  • Hanging from or swinging the bag is not allowed.
  • Sparring, wrestling, martial-arts throws, and other intensive physical contact activities are prohibited.
  • Attire policy is enforced. Closed-toe athletic shoes are recommended.
  • The heavy bag cannot be reserved and is for informal recreation only.
  • Wipe down the bag after use.
Indoor Track
  • Walkways should remain clear at all times. Stretching is permitted in mat areas only.
  • Throwing and kicking objects is prohibited.
  • Announce when passing other walkers and runners, e.g. "on your right"; "on your left".
  • The track is not a spectator area for events below.
  • Use cardio equipment for the intended purpose only. Patrons must face forward on treadmills.
  • 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment during peak hours (when other patrons are waiting).
  • Wipe down and clean equipment after use with disinfectant spray and towels (provided in exercise areas).
Multipurpose Courts 1-4
  • Hitting and throwing objects is prohibited (i.e. baseballs, softballs, cricket balls, lacrosse balls, golf balls, tennis balls).
  • Grasping of basketball rims and nets is prohibited.
  • Wearing boots and heels are prohibited during activities.
  • Notify the Member Services Desk if you need hoops, volleyball nets, or badminton nets to be set up or taken down OR if equipment becomes stuck in bleachers or ledges.
Multipurpose Courts 5-8
  • Hitting and throwing objects is prohibited (i.e. baseballs, softballs, cricket balls, lacrosse balls, golf balls, tennis balls).
  • Grasping of basketball rims and nets is prohibited.
  • Wearing boots and heels are prohibited during activities.
  • Notify the Member Services Desk if you need hoops, volleyball nets, or badminton nets to be set up or taken down OR if equipment becomes stuck in bleachers or ledges.
  • Do not climb closed bleachers.
Pool Regulations
  • No swimmers may enter the natatorium without an aquatic staff members present.
  • The Emergency Alert System is one long whistle blast. All swimmers must exit the pool immediately upon the sound of one long whistle.
  • No person is permitted to use the pool without first having taken a warm water shower, using soap.
  • Swimmers with an obvious communicable disease, skin eruption, cut sore or lesion, eye, ear, nose, or throat infection are prohibited from using any public swimming pool.
  • Proper swimwear must be worn at all times.
  • Bandages and casts may not be worn in the pool.
  • Spitting, water spouting, and nose blowing in the pool, gutters, and deck areas are prohibited.
  • Hyperventilation or the holding of one's breath underwater for an extended period of time can be extremely dangerous and is therefore prohibited. (Extended period of time = 30 seconds or a distance of 25 yards).
  • Horseplay and exhibitions that could jeopardize personal safety or the safety of others are prohibited.
  • Circle swim procedures will be implemented at the discretion of the lifeguard.
  • Throwing objets in the pool is not allowed during lap and circle swim times.
  • Equipment stored at the pool must remain at the pool.
  • An adult 19 years of age or older must actively supervise and be within arm's reach of children under the age of 6 and/or children who cannot pass a swim test administered by a lifeguard.
Racquetball, Handball, Squash, and Wallyball Courts
  • Protective eyewear is strongly recommended.
  • Racquets must have protective guards on the edge and a strap at the end of the handle.
  • Purposely striking racquets against walls, windows, doors, or floors is prohibited.
Sauna
  • This is a dry sauna - do not pour water on the heating element.
  • Avoid touching or leaning on the heating element.
  • Do not attempt to adjust the sauna temperature; temperature is set at 170 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit per recommendation of the American College of Sports Medicine.
  • Patrons must have a barrier between their skin and the wooden benches, such as a towel, shorts, or swimsuit. Bare skin should not be in contact with the wood.
  • Sneakers and street shoes are prohibited.
  • Recommended time limit: 10 minutes. Due to the high temperatures, the sauna can be harmful to your health. Individuals with medical conditions such as high or low blood pressure, heart disease, respiratory problems, diabetes, and those who are pregnant should consult their physician before suing the sauna.
  • Be properly hydrated or drink plenty of water prior to entering the sauna.
  • These items and activities are not permitted: calisthenics and exercise; shaving; massage; food; drink; water bottles; newspapers; magazines; paper; spitting; plastic, glass, or metal objects; and audio without headphones.
Strength Training and Conditioning Room
  • Clean, appropriate athletic attire must cover the chest and buttocks. Attire that could cause damage to equipment is prohibited.
  • Closed-toed activity-appropriate footwear is required. Shows must have a heel or heel strap.
  • Use exercise machines and equipment for the intended purpose only.
  • Wipe down and clean equipment after use with disinfectant spray and towels (provided in exercise areas).
  • 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment during peak hours (when other patrons are waiting).
  • Spotters are strongly recommended when lifting free weights. Ask the on-duty staff if you need assistance.
  • Collars or clips are required when lifting free weifgth bars.
  • Squats must be performed inside the rack.
  • Olympic lifts must be performed int he platform area with rubber bumper plates.
  • Re-rack weights and bars to their holders after use.
  • Throwing medicine balls against the walls and floors is prohibited.
  • Leaning equipment against walls and mirrors or removing equipment from this area is prohibited.
  • Youth age 13 years and younger are not permitted access to the Strength Training and Conditioning Area. Youth age 14-15 years must attend a free orientation before using equipment and must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult age 19 or over.
Cycle Studio
  • The space is only open for classes and instruction when staffed.
Treadmill Loft
  • Clean, appropriate athletic attire must cover the chest and buttocks. Attire that could cause damage to equipment is prohibited.

Outside Recreation Area
  • Outdoor field spaces are university property, intended for use by current fee-paying university students and Campus Recreation members. Individuals not meeting these requirements shall be considered trespassers and are subject to removal.
  • Current and valid University I. D. Card required to enter.
  • Visitors must pay the guest fee.
  • It is the user's responsibility to follow and obey all posted rules, instructions, and authorized supervision. Please contact Campus Recreation if you have questions or need an interpretation. That you for your assistance in making this a clean and safe environment for all patrons.
  • Failure to abide by these policies, regulations posted in facilities, or requests made by any Campus Recreation employee can result in ejection or suspension from facilities and program privileges. Campus Recreation's complete Misconduct and Ejection Policy is available at crec.unl.edu.
  • The manufacture, possession, use, and/or distribution of alcoholic beverages, drugs, tobacco products, and dangerous weapons are not allowed in any facility, as defined by the University's Student Code of Conduct. E-cigarettes are also prohibited.
  • Roller blades/skates, scooters, and skateboards are prohibited from use in any facility, including outdoor court spaces. No wheeled vehicles of any kind are permitted on the courts.
  • Bicycles and motorized vehicles are prohibited from being brought into/used in courts and field spaces. Motorcycles and mopeds must be parked in designated parking areas; bicycles must be stored in the racks provided outside the facilities.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for any personal items left unattended and/or unsecured in any facility.
  • Climbing on, over, or under fences or structures is prohibited.
  • Fires and open flames are prohibited on courts and fields.
  • Personal training of patrons, either individually or in a group, is only allowed with a designated employee of Campus Recreation.
  • Only shatterproof bottles are allowed on courts and fields.
  • Animals are not permitted in the facility, except certified service animals.
  • Use personal equipment according to the manufacturer's instructions and at your own risk.
  • Youth age 15 years and younger must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult 19 years of age or older at all times.
  • During severe weather leave the facility or take shelter in the nearest building.
  • Open recreation is prohibited during programmed/ scheduled activities. Please see the daily events schedule for a list of activities.
  • Courts are in close proximity to office spaces and classrooms. Please keep music volume reasonable.
  • Please call the Recreation and Wellness Center at 402-472-2479 to share any concerns you have about any facility maintenance issues or hazards.
  • Hockey and roller hockey are prohibited.
  • Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited on courts.
  • Throwing of medicine balls against courts is prohibited.
  • No hanging or pulling on the nets.
  • No throwing or striking of hard objects (baseball, lacrosse, softball, golf, etc.)
Cardio Cube
  • Clean, appropriate athletic attire must cover the chest and buttocks. Attire that could cause damage to equipment is prohibited.
  • Closed-toed activity-appropriate footwear is required. Shoes must have a heel or heel strap.
  • Use equipment for the intended purpose only. Patrons must face forward on treadmills.

Golf Simulator
  • Arrive ten minutes prior to your tee time and check in at the Member Services desk
  • A brief orientation on the navigation of programs, courses, and special features can be demonstrated upon request at the Member Services Desk.
  • Do not touch the screen or projector at any time. Report any problems to the Member Services desk.
  • Footwear is required. Shoes must be clean. Metal spikes are prohibited.
  • Golf etiquette must be followed at all times. Profanity and club throwing is prohibited.
  • Personal clubs and/or balls may be used and must be clean and free of dirt.
  • Keep extra clubs and equipment outside of the simulator.
  • Only one golfer in the simulator at a time. All others must stay out fo the simulator.
  • All swings must be inside the simulator. Only woods can be used on the tees. All clubs can be used from the mat.
  • No food or drink is allowed inside the simulator.
  • Stop play when your time is up. If you wish to continue playing, check in at the Member Services desk. If the next time slot is not reserved, you may be allowed to extend your tee time.
Group Exercise East Studio
  • Equipment stored in this room must remain in the room.

  • Closed-toed activity-appropriate footwear is required. Shows must have a heel or heel strap.
  • If FitBox is locked, ask for assistance at the Member Services desk in the Recreation and Wellness Center.
  • Use equipment for the intended purpose only.
  • All FitBox equipment must remain in the turf area.
  • No outside equipment may be brought in for use on the FitBox, including equipment from the indoor Recreation & Wellness Center.
  • Wall Ball target should be used only with the provided Dynamax balls.
  • Kettlebells and Dynamax balls cannot be thrown or slammed onto the turf area or against the FitBox.
  • Sleds can only travel east to west on the turf.
  • Step up platform can only be used to step onto, no jumping.

Community Agreement

This is an empowered space. All styles of climbing, bodies, abilities. and identities welcome. Remain mindful of the space you occupy. As a community, we commit to actively support access where it enhances inclusion. We recognize, in many contexts, this leisure pursuit hasn't been and may not currently be accessible to all identities. All are encouraged to respond to harm and harassment in the gym.

General
  • Climbing is dangerous. By climbing here, you agree to joint responsibility with staff to reduce and manage risk. Our staff's presence does not eliminate any risks.
  • Staff's role is supervision. In addition, they are to be the sole provider of instruction on the climbing wall.
  • Lesson participants have priority access.
  • Abide by all Campus Rec policies, expectations, and staff requests.
  • Before entry, check in at the computer/front desk.

Climbers must
  • Wear close-toed shoes.

Belayers must

  • Use equipment relevant to their skills check.
  • Never let go of the brake strand.
  • Not sit while belaying.
Appropriate Attire/Equipment

Chalk is a necessary evil. However, please use it wisely and clean up any chalk piles you might leave.

Bouldering
  • If a climber chooses to top out on the boulder deck they must use the down climb on the south side of the boulder. Jumping from the boulder deck is not allowed.
  • Spotters are highly recommended while bouldering.
  • The trail/gully to the north rappel deck is closed to general public use unless participating in a lesson or program with staff instructors.
  • Do not boulder past the first line of lead clips or the top-out deck.
  • Do not sit on the mat or below climbers.
  • Use a spotter when needed.
Lead Climbing
  • Spot climber to the first draw.
  • Clip all draws before your waist is past the hanger.
  • Begin belaying off of the first bolt.
  • Only climb routes that have a lead designation on the route tag.
Roped Climbing
  • Aperture-style belay devices are preferred; assisted-locking devices are only allowed if a patron first demonstrates belay competency on an aperture-style device and can subsequently pass a belay skills check with an assisted-locking device.
  • Patrons younger than 16 years of age seeking to take a belay skills check must be granted approval by the Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures. This approval is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Auto Belays
  • Climber must weigh between 22-330 lbs (10-148kg).
  • Do not use unsupervised unless you have a current skills check.

Outdoor Recreation Areas

General
  • Outdoor field spaces are university property, intended for use by current fee-paying university students and Campus Recreation members. Individuals not meeting these requirements shall be considered trespassers and are subject to removal.
  • Current and valid University I. D. Card required to enter.
  • Visitors must pay the guest fee.
  • It is the user's responsibility to follow and obey all posted rules, instructions, and authorized supervision. Please contact Campus Recreation if you have questions or need an interpretation. That you for your assistance in making this a clean and safe environment for all patrons.
  • Failure to abide by these policies, regulations posted in facilities, or requests made by any Campus Recreation employee can result in ejection or suspension from facilities and program privileges. Campus Recreation's complete Misconduct and Ejection Policy is available at crec.unl.edu.
  • The manufacture, possession, use, and/or distribution of alcoholic beverages, drugs, tobacco products, and dangerous weapons are not allowed in any facility, as defined by the University's Student Code of Conduct. E-cigarettes are also prohibited.
  • Roller blades/skates, scooters, and skateboards are prohibited from use in any facility, including outdoor court spaces. No wheeled vehicles of any kind are permitted on the courts.
  • Bicycles and motorized vehicles are prohibited from being brought into/used in courts and field spaces. Motorcycles and mopeds must be parked in designated parking areas; bicycles must be stored in the racks provided outside the facilities.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for any personal items left unattended and/or unsecured in any facility.
  • Climbing on, over, or under fences or structures is prohibited.
  • Fires and open flames are prohibited on courts and fields.
  • Personal training of patrons, either individually or in a group, is only allowed with a designated employee of Campus Recreation.
  • Only shatterproof bottles are allowed on courts and fields.
  • Animals are not permitted in the facility, except certified service animals.
  • Use personal equipment according to the manufacturer's instructions and at your own risk.
  • Youth age 15 years and younger must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult 19 years of age or older at all times.
  • During severe weather leave the facility or take shelter in the nearest building.
  • Open recreation is prohibited during programmed/ scheduled activities. Please see the daily events schedule for a list of activities.
  • Outdoor recreation areas are in close proximity to office spaces and classrooms. Please keep music volume reasonable.
  • Please call the Recreation and Wellness Center at 402-472-2479 to share any concerns you have about any facility maintenance issues or hazards.
17th & Vine Street Fields
  • Grass fields are only available for Campus Recreation Programming. Open recreation is prohibited.
  • Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited during open recreation on artificial turf.
  • Throwing of medicine balls against turf is prohibited.
  • No staking of equipment into the turf.
  • It is highly recommended that soccer goals be weighted with provided sandbags.
  • Turf fields are available for open recreation for seasonal hours. Call 402-472-3467 for specific hours.
18th & S Recreation Courts
  • Hockey and roller hockey are prohibited.
  • Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited on courts.
  • Throwing of medicine balls against courts is prohibited.
  • No wheeled vehicles of any kind permitted on the courts.
  • No throwing or striking of hard objects (baseball, lacrosse, softball, golf, etc.)
  • No hanging or pulling on the nets.
21st & Vine Recreation Area
  • Hockey and roller hockey are prohibited.
  • Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited on courts.
  • Throwing of medicine balls against courts is prohibited.
  • No wheeled vehicles of any kind permitted on the courts.
  • No throwing or striking of hard objects (baseball, lacrosse, softball, golf, etc.)
Fleming Fields
  • Fields are only available by reservation. Call 402-472-3467.
  • Spectators and players assume inherent risks of all activities taking place within the complex.
Mabel Lee Fields
  • Metal on the bottom of any footwear is prohibited during open recreation on artificial turf.
  • Throwing of medicine balls against walls, patio, or turf is prohibited.
  • No staking of equipment into the turf.
  • It is highly recommended that soccer goals be weighted with provided sandbags.
  • No wheeled vehicles of any kind permitted on the courts.
  • No throwing or striking of hard objects (baseball, lacrosse, softball, golf, etc.)
  • No throwing or striking of objects into fences, buildings, or structures.
  • Keep food in the patio area.
  • If restrooms are closed, please use facilities located in the Campus Recreation Center.
Whittier Field
  • Fields are only available by reservation. Call 402-472-3467.

Misconduct and Ejection

General

If a participant or spectator in a Campus Recreation program or facility is ejected or suspended from any facility (indoor or outdoor), program, contest, or activity, he/she is immediately ineligible for the further access or competition in any Campus Recreation program or facility until he/she is cleared by the Assistant Director (or his/her designee) responsible for the program in which the misconduct and/or ejection occurred. Further, any participant or spectator who violates University of Nebraska-Lincoln and/or Campus Recreation policies or procedures may also be suspended until he/she is cleared by the Assistant Director (or his/her designee) responsible for the program in which the misconduct occurs. A non-exhaustive list of programs, activities, and individuals covered under the policy includes:

Challenge Course, Climbing Wall, Conference Users, Contract Groups, Facility Renters, Family & Youth Program, Fitness & Wellness Services, Indoor Cycling, Informal Recreation, Injury Prevention & Care, Instructional Programs, Intramural Sports, Message Therapy, Members & Employees, Outdoor Recreation, Personal Training, Programs for Students with disabilities, Guests, Special Events, Spectators, Sports Clubs, and Visitors & Tours.

It is the participant's responsibility to schedule an appointment with the appropriate Assistant Director to review his/her behavior and subsequent eligibility to participate in any Campus Recreation program or to utilize facilities. Participant suspensions are effective after the meeting with the Assistant Director or his/her designee (i.e., self-imposed penalties are not considered). Assistant Director decisions may be appealed to the appropriate Associate Director; however, suspensions remain in force during the appeal process. Appeal beyond the Associate Director may be made to the Director, and finally to the Campus Recreation Advisory Council.

Anyone who commits, incites, or aids others in committing any of the following acts of unsportsmanlike or misconduct shall be subjected to disciplinary procedures.

  1. Hitting, striking, or pushing a Campus Recreation employee (student or professional).
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation programs and/or facilities. Petition for reinstatement will be considered by the appropriate Associate Director after a minimum of one calendar year.
  2. Hitting, striking, or pushing another participant, spectator, user, member, or guest.
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation programs and/or facilities. Petition for reinstatement will be considered by the appropriate Associate Director after a minimum of one calendar year.
  3. Threatening physical harm towards a Campus Recreation employee (student or professional), participant, user, member, guest, or spectator.
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation facilities and/or programs for a minimum of one month.
  4. Verbally abusing a Campus Recreation employee (student or professional), participant, user, guest, or member.
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation programs and/or facilities for a minimum of one week.
  5. Acting in a way which would cause equipment or facility damage (including spitting, snorting), and/or injury to a person.
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation programs and/or facilities for a minimum of one week.
  6. Failing to cooperate and respond honestly to injuries or requests for assistance in identifying individuals who may be involved in incidents.
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation programs and/or facilities for the individual and/or their team, club, or organization.
  7. Entering, using, or accessing any facility or program illegally such as using an assumed name or a University I. D. Card illegally/inappropriately.
    • Disciplinary Action: Indefinite suspension from Campus Recreation programs and/or facilities for at least 7 days.
  8. Personal conduct situations that are not covered by other provisions not stated in the above items #1-7 will be dealt with in an appropriate manner by the Assistant or Associate Director. Any incident of unsportsmanlike or inappropriate behavior will be forwarded to Judicial Affairs and/or University Police for appropriate action.

Appeals

Procedure and Guidelines

A person, team, club or other organization may appeal the decision of the Assistant Director (or his/her designee) to the Associate Director and/or Director by notification in writing within 5 weekdays if the date of the written notification of suspension from the Assistant Director.

NOTE: Individual programs may have intermediate appeal procedures. Be sure to check the appropriate handbook or with the Assistant Director. Additionally, the final appeal from the decision of the Director may be made to the Campus Recreation Advisory Council (CRAC). Written notice of appeal must be made within 5 weekdays of the date of the written notification of suspension from the Director. Written notification must be made to the president of CRAC at least one week prior to the meeting concerning the suspension. The President may delay the hearing to ensure council members are prepared. The hearing shall occur at regularly scheduled CRAC meetings and suspensions remain in effect until CRAC handles the final appeal. The CRAC hearing shall adhere to the following agenda/procedure:

  • Introduction of all in attendance by President or another officer
  • Description of event/history to the date by Assistant Director or designee
  • Reports by Campus Recreation employees (i.e., officials, supervisors)
  • Response by Applicant(s)
  • Reports by witnesses and representatives
  • Comments/questions by CRAC members
  • Additional comments by witnesses/representatives
  • Additional comments by Campus Recreation employee(s)
  • Additional comments by Appellant(s)
  • Closing comments by CRAC President or officer

General Appeal Guidelines:

  1. The Appellant(s) may be represented by a maximum of 3 people, one of whom shall be designated as the spokesperson for the group.
  2. Members of the opposing team or party may also be represented by a maximum of three people, one of whom shall be designated as the spokesperson.
  3. All pertinent materials such as scorecards, incident reports, police reports, and other documentation must be brought to the hearing. Additionally, copies of this material should be distributed to CRAC at least one week in advance of the hearing for this review.

Everyone at the hearing is allowed two opportunities to speak. At the beginning of the hearing, the CRAC President will familiarize those in attendance with these procedures and ask everyone to respect the rights of others by adhering to the agenda and NOT responding spontaneously to testimony or reports. Failure to abide by the agenda and/or conduct oneself in a respectful manner towards others may result in additional suspensions and/or a halting of the appeal procedure. Reports/comments by the parties should be uninterrupted and everyone should be afforded courtesy and respect.

The President's closing comments shall include a general statement of what possible action may be taken by CRAC and when the Appellant(s) will be notified of the decision by writing. Everyone, other than CRAC members, shall leave the room prior to discussion and vote by CRAC.

CRAC shall reach a decision by a majority vote of the members present but a minimum of more than half of the members present must be in attendance before the hearing can be conducted. The CRAC President or his/her designee shall inform the spokesperson for the Appellant(s) and the other parties of CRAC's decision within 5 weekdays following the date of the hearing. The decision of CRAC is final and not appealable unless a party can point to serious flaws in the administration of the final hearing, which jeopardized the fairness of the proceeding. A record of CRAC proceedings shall be maintained for a minimum of thirty (30) days.
