Cooking Classes & Demonstrations

UNL Campus Recreation cooking classes and demonstrations teach participants the skills needed to prepare healthy meals that are simple, budget friendly, and delicious. The deadline for each class is 48 hours prior to class start.

Meal Kit Mondays

Let us make your meal-times easier! Forget those expensive meal delivery services and pre-order meal kits from our Wellness Kitchen. Then, pick up your ready-to-go, four-serving meals on the first Monday of the month at the Wellness Kitchen inside the Rec & Wellness Center anytime 4:30-5:30 p.m. We're here to fuel your week or help you stock your freezer!

Each meal kit includes everything you need for a delicious dinner in well under an hour – all you provide is the tools, cooking spray and some minor chopping/mixing/etc. We offer three different meal options for pick-up on the first Monday of each month. You'll need to order 48 hours prior to pick-up. You can choose one, two or three or double up on the same meal!

Just $15 per meal!

Registration is available until 5 p.m. the Friday prior to pick-up time.

(After placing your order, please email Jenna Beres at jennifer.beres@huskers.unl.edu with your choice of meals from the list of options below and note any food allergies you may have - we can accommodate! You may also order multiples of the same meal if you prefer.)

Probiotics are trending, but do you know what they are, why they are good for you and what foods contain probiotics? How about prebiotics? Come get your questions answered and learn about probiotics, prebiotics and what they can do for you.

Zero Waste Meal

Learn how to reduce your food and food packaging waste in this class. We will review ways you can reduce your ways, the benefits of reducing waste and ideas for zero-waste meals. We will be making a three part meal including Crostini with Carrot Greens Pesto, Shaved Broccoli and Feta Salad and Garden Vegetable and Lentil Soup.

Preparing breakfasts ahead of time means you don’t have to skip breakfast when you are rushing out the door. You can fit breakfast into your busy morning schedule and still have some variety during the week.

Instant Pot 101

Have an instant pot but do not know what to make or how to use it? Bring in your instant pot and learn how to make Hawaiian Pulled Chicken Sandwiches using just your instant pot! During the class you will learn some more information about safety and converting recipes to recipes you can make in your instant pot.

Plant Based Protein Power

Are you a vegetarian, vegan, or just someone who wants to try out new vegetarian options? This class will give you information you need about eating enough plant-based proteins to help fuel your studying, workout and everyday tasks. We will be making Chickpea Patties with a Sriracha Yogurt Dip and a Tempeh Hash with Brussels Sprouts.

$25 per person

Includes a meal for each guest.

The Wellness Kitchen is the perfect environment to learn to cook or expand your skills. Classes include a cooking coach that will lead participants through each step of the cooking experience and will conclude with enjoying a delicious meal together. Come hungry!

Let us customize a class just for your group by choosing one of each of the courses below or contact us with any ideas you have. Each person will be involved in the cooking process and everyone enjoys a meal at the end of the class.

These events are great for large groups and feature a cooking instructor front-and-center. With the help of cameras and large screens, instructors lead the group in preparing meals for them to duplicate in their own kitchens. Each guest enjoys a taste of what the instructor cooks.
