Challenge Rules

Badminton

The system governing challenge play begins when all involved priority courts are occupied by singles or doubles players who are present and ready to play.  Challenge play ends when one or more courts are not occupied.

  • First Come, First Served
    • The first player(s) waiting at one of the courts will automatically have the next game.  It is the responsibility of the waiting player(s) to register a challenge
  • Games to 21
    • At the time of the challenge, the players on that court will finish the game/match they are on.  At the conclusion of the game/match underway, the challengers take the court and games to 21 become the rule of play.  The first player/team to 21 is the winner and has the right to retain the court.  At the completion of the set the losing player or doubles players will give up the court and the challenging player(s) will take their place
  • Three Wins Only
    • After a singles player or doubles team wins three set in a row they must rotate out
Basketball

The system of governing challenge full court basketball play begins automatically when the basketball court becomes occupied by two teams of five participants present and ready for play (gym shoes) who have made the challenge

  • First Come, First Served
    • The first five waiting at the court will automatically have the next game.  If less than five are waiting to play, members from the losing team or from another court's losing team or those waiting, may play.  When the challenge system is in effect and a participating team's number of players drops below five, the remaining members may continue to play to the end of the 21-basket game with or without adding members to their team
  • No Half Court
    • No half court basketball if 10 participants are present and indicate they want to play full court
  • Games to 21 Only
    • At the time of challenge, the two teams of five participants on the court will begin a game of 21 baskets.  The first team to score 21 baskets is the winner.  At the completion of the 21-basket game, the losing team will give up the court and the challenging five will take their place.  If, at the end of the game, one or more members of the winning team are unable to continue play, the remaining member(s) of the winning team, to hold the court, must fill their vacancies only from the members of the losing team.  If they are unable to fill their vacancies from the members of the losing team, and there are two complete teams of five participants waiting and ready to play in the challenge order, the first two teams waiting have the right to the court
  • Three Wins Only
    • After a team wins three games in a row, they must rotate out

The intent of the system governing challenge full court basketball is to promote equal participation.
