The following items/activities are not allowed: food, drink, water bottles, gum, tobacco products, drug use, alcoholic beverages, spitting, dangerous weapons (as defined by the University's Student Code of Conduct), baby strollers, roller skates, and roller blades.
Rock climbing shoes or athletics shoes are required to be worn. Bare feet, sandals, open toed shoes, boots, turf/spiked shoes, and hard-soled shoes are prohibited.
Helmets are strongly recommended
Double-bagged chalk balls are allowed. Powdered or black chalk is prohibited.
Patrons must successfully complete the Climbing Wall Orientation - Level I, current skills check , and liability / assumption of risk wavier prior to use. A current photo ID must be presented to climbing wall supervisor to enter the climbing area (walk-Up Option: Patrons are allowed one-tie-only free climb to become introduced to climbing).
Climbers are required to tie directly into the harness using a follow-through figure eight knot with finish knot. Prior to climb, belayer and climber must double check each other to ensure knots and harness buckle are correctly fastened and belay system is ready.
Belayers must remain standing and keep brake hand on the rope and eyes on climber at all times; belaying while seated, in a reclined position or from benches is prohibited
Lead climbers are required to have an anchored belayer.
A minimum of one spotter per boulder is recommended. Boulder's wrist must not exceed bolt hanger level (approx 10 feet about mat).
Climbing on door frame and drywall area is prohibited.
Climbing lessons-in-progress have priority use of wall routes. Instructors may ask climbers to move to another route.
Youth age 15 years and younger must be accompanied and directly supervised by parent/guardian and are required to wear a helmet (provided by Campus Recreation). Guardian waivers required for climbers under 19 years of age. Patrons must be 16 years or older to belay. Youth age 4 years and younger are not prohibited from using the climbing wall.
Personal training of patrons, either individually or in a group, is only allowed with a designated employee of Campus Recreation
Failure to abide by these policies and regulations, those printed in Campus Recreation General Policies or requests made by any Campus Recreation employee can result in ejection or suspension of building and program privileges
