What?

We are UNL's adventure programming source. Outdoor Adventures (OA) includes Adventure Trips, Challenge Course, the Bike Shop, Climbing Wall, and Equipment Rental. If you work for OA, you will be trained to work in all areas, but are given the flexibility to specialize in areas of interest. OA's core values are: Self-Directed Learning, Leadership, Compassion & Service, Environmental & Social Responsibility, Self-Awareness and Escape.

Who?

You! You don't necessarily need experience with adventure programs to work at OA. You'll just need some passion to work with a great group of folks and motivation to change lives through adventure experiences. We are always looking for dedicated, unique, diverse individuals who enjoy learning everyday and who tend to live less than ordinary lives to the fullest!

Where?

Most days at Outdoor Adventure are spent working at the Campus Recreation Center staffing the Climbing Wall, Equipment Rental, and Bike Shop. We are also regularly out at the Challenge Course (west of Lincoln near Nine Mile Prairie) or out on an Adventure Trip cycling local trails, backpacking in Utah, climbing in Colorado, or traveling to exotic international destinations!

When?

We are usually open 7 days a week with many hours being in the evening and weekends. Most of our staff average around 10 hours per week (some more and some less) during the school year and more during the summer. Of course academics come first, so we'll work around your schedule as best we can. However, we have high expectations of OA staff members, so we hope you will be dedicated to this program and want to be as involved as possible. We prefer that new employees are able to give at least 2 years of time before leaving the university. While we are always taking applications, our typical hiring periods are in November and February.

How do I Apply?

We believe that meaningful experiences can transform the way people see themselves and their role in this world. Doing our best to provide these meaningful experiences, we hope to make a difference for the UNL, Lincoln, and Nebraska communities. To do this, we need very competent, passionate, and dedicated student staff. Please provide the following materials to apply for a position with Outdoor Adventures:

  1. Campus Recreation Application for Employment
  2. Cover Letter
  3. Resume

Please stop by Outdoor Adventures to turn in your application. All applications should be directed to Jason Bakewell, Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures.

Questions?

We welcome questions and dialogue about who we are and what we do! Stop by Outdoor Adventures or the Climbing Wall anytime during regular hours to talk to us and learn more. There's no better way to get a feel for what it's like working at Outdoor Adventures than talking with our current staff. They are friendly folks who would be happy to answer any questions. You may also contact us at 402.472.4777 or email Jason Bakewell, Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures - jbakewell2@unl.edu
