Learn-to-Swim: American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills to children (ages 6-11). A skill assessment will be performed on the first day of class to determine individual skill levels. Participants will then build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements on the front, back and side. They will learn to refine different strokes and build endurance as the levels increase.

Parent & Child Aquatics: American Red Cross Parent & Child Aquatics familiarizes children (from ages 6 months to about 3 years) to the water, gives parents safety information, teaches parents techniques to help orient their children to the water and provides direction regarding how to supervise water activities in a responsible manner. The course is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. This course is a bonding experience that will fill parents and children with wonderful lifelong memories.

Preschool Aquatics: American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics promotes the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and aquatic skills for young children (ages 4 and 5). Skills categories include water entry and exit, breath control, buoyancy, changing direction and position, swim on front and back, and water safety. This course will prepare children to swim in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses.

Adult Learn-to-Swim: American Red Cross Adult Swim courses are intended for older teens and adults wishing to improve their knowledge of, and skill in, the water. Adult Swim offers three options to meet specific needs and interests—Learning the Basics, Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes, and Swimming for Fitness.

Lifeguarding: The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Lifeguarding Instructor: The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Lifeguarding Review: The purpose of the Lifeguarding Review course is to give currently certified lifeguards the opportunity recertify by reviewing the course content within a formal course setting. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.
